Captive Insurance

Tom has been very active in the captive insurance industry since the mid-1980′s starting his career as a risk management analyst in the risk management department of National Medical Enterprises. At the time NME was one of the three largest for-profit healthcare systems delivering integrated medical services including hospitals, skilled care, assisted living, psychiatric services, rehabilitation, and medical providers in the U.S. and around the globe.

While at NME he was heavily involved with their Bermuda based captive insurance company, Health Facilities Insurance Company (HFIC), which was one of the very few and very first captives dedicated to financing healthcare risks in Bermuda when Bermuda was not accepting long-tail professional liability captives; which was the catalyst for the establishment of Cayman as the major center of  healthcare captive insurance companies.

The following links provide additional detail with regards to the work experience of Tom in the areas of captives, risk retention groups, and risk purchasing groups.
